Congress visited the demolished Little Flower Church

New Delhi :
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar, along with senior leaders and a large number of Congress workers, visited the site of the demolished Little Flower Church, Andheria Mode, Chattarpur in South Delhi, lit candles, and assured the Church authorities that he would strive his best in ensuring that the Church is re-built at the same site.

Ch. Anil Kumar reached the demolished church site on Sunday morning,   after the morning prayers, and he was accorded a warm welcome by the Church authorities, led by Fr. Jose Kannukuzhy, Parish Priest, and other senior functionaries of the church. Ch. Anil Kumar was accompanied by ex-MP Shri Ramesh Kumar, DPCC vice-president Shri Ali Mehdi, ex MLA Vijay Lochav, ex-Mayor Satbir Singh, district president Shri Rajesh Chauhan, Rajiv Joseph and a large number of workers, and Christian faithful.

The Congress workers carried placards carrying slogans such as “Arvind Kejriwal, Don’t be an RSS Puppet”, “Reconstruct the Church Immediately”, etc.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that he had already written to Chief Minister Arvind to reconstruct the church at the same site, as it was the only remedy to pacify the hurt feelings of the Christian community, whose services in the education sector and social service, even during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, have been highly praise-worthy.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was very unfortunate that the Delhi Development Authority, under the BJP Government, demolished the church to stoke communal passions which law-abiding Delhiites would not tolerate. He said that it was startling that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind has not spoken up strongly against the demolition of the Church though he professes himself to be a votary of the common people, and accommodates all religious faiths in his party. He said that CM Arvind’s silence on the issue was proof enough that he was in tacit support of the BJP agenda of subjugating the minority community in a systematic manner.

Ch Anil Kumar said that the church has been in existence since 2005, which has been catering to the religious needs of around 600 families in the area. He said that the sudden demolition of the church has hurt the religious sentiments of the Christian community not only in the concerned area but also in the entire Delhi. He said that Chattarpur is an area where people and religious institutions of various faiths co-exist peacefully, and the demolition of the church has created a feeling of alienation and insecurity among the Christian community.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the demolition of the Church has captured national headlines to create a needless controversy, which could have been avoided had the authorities shown some discretion without hastily demolishing the place of worship.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Congress has always upheld religious freedom and allowed people to worship the faith of their choice, and strongly condemns the demolition of the church. He said  that the demolition of the church, at the behest of the BJP, was an attempt to create communal tension among people
